Chapter 25 - The First Move

Back in the quiet sanctuary of the mansion’s study, the late evening shadows stretched across the hardwood floor. The warm, directional light of the brass desk lamp illuminated the heavy mahogany desk.

Julian was not sleeping. He had exchanged his tailored suit for a dark, fitted dress shirt, the sleeves rolled up to his forearms. He sat in his leather chair, staring intensely at a bank of three encrypted laptops spread across his desk.

He was not waiting for Victor Thorne to attack. He was a man who understood that defense was merely a delayed defeat.

For the past seventy-two hours, Julian’s private intelligence team had been tracking the digital footprints left behind by Eleanor’s burner phone. They had sifted through thousands of proxy servers, shell companies, and offshore accounts, hunting for the ghost in London.

Suddenly, a soft chime emanated from the central laptop. A stream of decrypted financial data began scrolling rapidly across the black screen.

Julian leaned forward. His eye movement tracked the numbers with lethal precision. His jaw clenched, the muscles feathering beneath his clean-shaven cheeks.

They had found it.

Victor Thorne’s primary offshore holding company. The financial artery that funded his entire shadow operation.

Julian did not hesitate. His fingers moved across the keyboard with slow, deliberate keystrokes. He wasn't initiating a legal injunction. He was deploying a proprietary, aggressive algorithmic virus that his engineering team had designed specifically for hostile takeovers.

He paused, his finger hovering over the 'Execute' key.

The cinematic camera zoomed in tightly on Julian’s face. The soft glow of the monitor reflected in his dark eyes. The microscopic shift in his expression was one of pure, unrestrained retribution. Victor Thorne had tried to break his family. Julian was going to erase Victor’s entire existence.

Julian pressed the key.

On the screen, a progress bar instantly appeared, draining massive sums of capital from Victor’s shell accounts and dispersing them into thousands of untraceable, decentralized charitable trusts. Millions of dollars were vanishing into thin air every single second.

Julian leaned back in his leather chair, his natural breathing slow and deeply satisfied. He picked up a crystal glass of water, taking a slow sip in the absolute silence of his study.

The first shot had been fired. The war was no longer in the shadows. It had just been dragged into the light.
