Chapter 38 - The Extraction

The London night was thick with fog and freezing rain. The brutalist high-rise where Victor resided was an imposing monolith of dark concrete.

Inside the penthouse, Victor stood up slowly from his desk. He did not run frantically toward the door. He did not scream for his guards. The slow, cinematic realization of his absolute ruin anchored him to the floor. He understood the tactical efficiency of the man he had provoked.

A soft, metallic ping echoed from the private elevator doors at the end of the hall. The elevator that Julian had supposedly locked down had just arrived at the penthouse level.

Victor turned his head slowly. His natural breathing hitched.

The heavy steel doors slid open with a quiet hiss. From the darkness of the elevator car, four men stepped into the penthouse. They did not wear police uniforms. They wore unmarked, matte-black tactical gear. Their weapons were suppressed and lowered, held with the relaxed, terrifying discipline of tier-one private military contractors.

They did not shout commands. They did not rush him. They simply spread out in absolute silence, forming a lethal perimeter around the room.

A fifth man stepped out of the elevator. He wore a sharp, custom-tailored dark suit. He walked slowly across the room, the click of his polished shoes echoing off the concrete walls. He stopped ten feet away from Victor.

"Mr. Thorne," the man spoke with a refined, clipped British accent. "Mr. Julian sends his regards. He requested that we escort you out of the city. Permanently."

Victor looked at the armed men. He looked at the black screens of his ruined empire. His facial micro-expressions projected a total, catastrophic defeat. He slowly raised his hands, surrendering to the ghosts Julian had sent to collect him.
