Chapter 53 - The Blackout

As Julian reached the seventieth floor, clinging precariously to the exterior maintenance gantry, his timer hit zero.

Inside the building, his malicious code executed perfectly. It didn't shut down the power; it triggered the building's catastrophic fire-suppression protocols. Massive industrial fans reversed their flow, sucking the oxygen out of the hallways, and the emergency bulkheads slammed shut, isolating the elite guards into separated, compartmentalized zones. The lights shifted to a dim, pulsing crimson emergency hue.

Chaos erupted inside Elias’s fortress.

Julian used a specialized glass cutter to silently remove a thick pane from the executive boardroom window. He slipped inside the building like a shadow.

He lowered his panoramic night-vision goggles over his eyes. The world shifted into a crisp, glowing green. He drew a combat knife and his suppressed pistol.

Four guards rushed into the boardroom, disoriented by the flashing red lights and the blaring alarms. Julian moved silently behind them. He was lethal precision personified. A swift strike to the neck incapacitated the first. Two suppressed shots dropped the next two before they even realized they were under attack. The last guard turned, raising his weapon, but Julian threw his knife, embedding it perfectly into the man's shoulder, pinning him to the drywall.

Julian walked past the groaning man without a word, pulling his knife free. He was on the top floor. He was coming for Elias.
