Chapter 34 - The Whisper

The proxy took two slow steps forward. He was a professional, likely an ex-intelligence operative on Victor Thorne’s payroll, but the sheer physical presence of Julian in the dimly lit balcony caused a bead of sweat to form at the proxy's hairline.
Julian did not move. He did not cross his arms. He simply stared at the man, his cold, piercing glare dissecting the operative down to his bones. The cinematic realism of the scene relied on the heavy, suffocating dramatic tension—no weapons were drawn, no sudden body movements were made. The violence was entirely psychological.
"Mr. Julian," the proxy spoke, his voice carefully controlled, though a slight tremor betrayed his nerves.
Julian did not answer. He allowed the silence to stretch for three agonizing seconds, forcing the proxy to endure the weight of the pause.
"I have a message for you," the proxy continued, reaching slowly into the inner pocket of his gray suit jacket. "From an old friend in London. He wanted me to tell you that erasing a bank account does not erase a debt. He says the walls around your little girl are not as thick as you think."
Julian’s natural breathing stopped for a fraction of a millisecond. The mention of Lily was the absolute, unforgivable line.
A lethal, chilling calm washed over Julian. His dark eyes darkened into a void of pure, unrestrained menace.
"You are sweating," Julian whispered. His baritone voice was so low it barely carried over the ambient noise of the gala, yet it struck the proxy like a physical blow.
The proxy froze, his hand still inside his jacket.
"You walked into a room filled with billionaires and politicians, confident in your ghost identity," Julian continued, taking one incredibly slow, deliberate step forward. "But the moment you saw me, your heart rate spiked. Because you realize you are not the hunter delivering a threat."
May you like
Julian took another slow step, closing the distance until he was inches away from the man.
"You are the prey that just walked into an open cage."
