Chapter 30 - The Calculated Exposure

The following evening, Julian sat in the quiet luxury of his private study at the mansion. Marcus, the lead corporate counsel, stood across the mahogany desk, his face pale with deep, genuine concern.
"Julian, you cannot be serious," Marcus said, his voice tense, though he fought to keep it restrained. "Attending the Global Philanthropy Gala is an unnecessary risk. It is a highly publicized event. Hundreds of people. Unvetted catering staff, media, valets. It is a security nightmare."
Julian sat back in his leather chair. His natural breathing was slow and rhythmic. He looked at the encrypted tablet on his desk. The IP address provided by the mercenary had given Julian’s cyber team a direct, albeit fragile, conduit to Victor Thorne’s network.
"Victor thrives in the shadows, Marcus," Julian spoke, his baritone voice calm and unwavering. "He attacked my home because he believed I was too comfortable behind my walls. If I remain locked inside this mansion, he will eventually find a crack in the perimeter."
Julian leaned forward, resting his elbows on the desk, his dark eyes cutting through Marcus’s objections.
"I cannot fight a ghost. I have to give him a target."
"You are making yourself bait," Marcus whispered, realizing the terrifying gravity of the plan.
"I am making myself visible," Julian corrected smoothly. "The gala is the exact same venue where Eleanor originally infiltrated my life. Victor will see my attendance as an act of profound arrogance. He will view it as a psychological taunt. He will not be able to resist making a move."
Julian stood up slowly. He walked over to the tall windows, looking out into the pitch-black night.
"Elias will have the venue completely locked down. Every waiter, every valet, every guest will be subjected to biometric scanning. But we will leave one digital backdoor slightly open in the guest registry. A flaw Victor’s proxies will easily find."
Julian’s jaw clenched. A subtle, cold smile touched his eyes—a smile devoid of joy, filled entirely with lethal anticipation.

"We are going to invite the monster into the light," Julian murmured. "And when he steps through the door, we will close it behind him."
The cinematic camera slowly pulled back from the window, framing the solitary CEO standing in the shadows of his study. He was no longer just the protector of the mansion. He was the architect of an ambush. The screen faded to black, leaving a heavy, suffocating tension hanging in the air.
