Chapter 47 - The Cayman Node

The private bank in Grand Cayman was a fortress of white marble and reinforced glass, catering exclusively to the global elite. Julian walked through the front doors with absolute confidence, carrying his leather briefcase.
"Good afternoon, sir. Do you have an appointment?" the concierge asked.
"Arthur Pendelton," Julian replied smoothly, handing over a flawless, forged platinum identification card. "I am here to access safety deposit box 814."
The concierge scanned the card, smiled, and escorted him to the heavy steel elevators. Julian was led down into the subterranean vault. As soon as the heavy vault door clicked shut, leaving Julian alone in the private viewing room, his demeanor instantly shifted.
He didn't open the safety deposit box. He moved to the back wall of the room, feeling along the marble paneling. He found the microscopic seam, inserted a custom titanium pry tool, and popped the panel open, revealing the central fiber-optic trunk line that connected the bank's servers to The Directorate's shadow accounts.
Julian opened his briefcase, connecting his hacking rig to the exposed cables. He tapped rapidly on his keyboard, initiating a brutal, aggressive brute-force algorithm he had purchased from a Russian cyber-syndicate.
The screen flashed red, fighting his intrusion.
"Come on," Julian muttered, his fingers flying across the keys.

Firewall Breached. Access Granted.
Julian didn't steal the money. That would trigger international alarms. Instead, he initiated a scrambling protocol. He randomized the encryption keys for over four billion dollars in operational funds. In thirty seconds, The Directorate's entire financial empire was locked behind a digital wall they could never penetrate. They were instantly, functionally bankrupt.
