Chapter 9 - The Coastal Fortress

A month later, after relentlessly searching the real estate market, Daniel found the perfect property.
He didn't buy another historic mansion. He didn't buy a secluded cabin in the woods.
He purchased a sprawling, ultra-modern, newly constructed architectural masterpiece situated directly on the cliffs overlooking the vast, crashing ocean.
The house was designed almost entirely out of massive, floor-to-ceiling structural glass, reinforced steel, and light, natural wood. It was built specifically to let the light in. There were no dark, narrow hallways. There were no heavy velvet curtains. Every single room in the house offered an unobstructed, brilliant view of the endless blue horizon.
When they drove up the winding coastal road to see the finished property, Elena stepped out of the car and simply stared in awe.
The ocean breeze whipped her dark hair around her face. The air smelled of salt and absolute freedom.
"It's breathtaking,"
Elena breathed, holding Julian tightly to her chest as she walked up the sleek stone pathway toward the front door.
"It is impenetrable,"
Daniel corrected her, walking up beside her, placing a protective hand on the small of her back.
"I brought in the top private military contractors in the state to design the perimeter. There is a multi-layered biometric security system, laser-tripwire sensors along the cliffside, and a private security detail that monitors the cameras twenty-four hours a day from a command center down the road."
Daniel turned her gently to face him, his eyes filled with a fierce, uncompromising love.
"No one gets within a mile of this house without my explicit authorization. And the glass is entirely bulletproof."
Elena looked at the massive, sun-drenched house. It was the exact opposite of the claustrophobic, terrifying darkness she had survived. It was a home built entirely of light, designed specifically to heal her soul.
"I love it,"
Elena smiled, a genuine, relaxed expression finally touching her lips for the first time in months.
"Let's go inside,"
May you like
Daniel said softly, kissing her temple.
They walked through the front doors together, stepping into a massive, bright living room flooded with the golden afternoon sun. As they looked out at the endless, crashing waves of the ocean, Daniel knew, with absolute certainty, that they had finally found their permanent sanctuary.
