Chapter 22 - The Phantom Buyer

The peace lasted for nearly a year before a new, unfamiliar tension began to brew on the horizon.
Daniel was sitting in his sleek, glass-walled office in the city, reviewing the real estate acquisitions for the foundation's new safe houses. His chief financial officer, Marcus’s meticulously vetted replacement, placed a red folder on the desk.
"Mr. Vance, we have a problem in the northern district,"
The CFO stated, his expression grave.
"What kind of problem?"
Daniel asked, opening the folder.
"A massive, anonymous corporate entity has been aggressively buying up the commercial properties surrounding our proposed safe house locations. They are outbidding us by millions, intentionally blocking our expansion."
Daniel’s eyes narrowed into dark, lethal slits. He analyzed the financial routing numbers.
"It isn't anonymous to me,"

Daniel murmured, recognizing the distinct, layered shell-company structure.
"Trace these routing numbers back to Apex Holdings. I want a name by midnight."
