Chapter 15 - The Ocean Breeze

The explosive news broke exactly one week later on every major national network.
Marcus’s appeal was universally, aggressively denied by the federal appellate court. Based on the new ledgers Daniel had strategically deployed, an additional, un-servable ten years were added to his federal maximum-security sentence.
He was permanently, legally buried.
Daniel and Elena celebrated the news not with a lavish party, but by turning off their phones and walking down the wooden stairs to the private, secluded beach behind their home.
The sun was slowly setting over the horizon, painting the vast evening sky in brilliant, explosive shades of bruised purple, deep crimson, and shimmering gold.
"He will never see the outside of a cell for the rest of his natural life,"
Daniel murmured, picking up a smooth, gray stone and skipping it effortlessly across the crashing waves.
"And we will never have to think about his name ever again,"

Daniel turned around, pulling her tightly against his chest, burying his face in her wind-swept hair, breathing in the crisp, clean scent of the ocean and absolute, undeniable freedom.
