Chapter 50 - The Pinnacle

The fallout from the congressional hearing was immediate and spectacular. Senator Hayes resigned in absolute disgrace within forty-eight hours, facing severe federal indictments for corruption and undisclosed lobbying funds. The antitrust investigation against Rose & Wren instantly collapsed, dismissed as a malicious, politically motivated attack. Our stock surged to unprecedented, historic heights.

We had broken the final barrier. The government, the rivals, and the old-world institutions had all bowed to the sheer, uncompromising strength of the empire we had built.

I returned to my top-floor office in the city, the silence of absolute victory settling comfortably around me. It was a brilliant, cloudless morning. I walked up to the panoramic glass windows, rolling my chair to the very edge of the floor-to-ceiling glass.

Julian pushed the heavy oak door open, carrying two cups of hot, fresh coffee. He walked over, standing beside me, looking out at the sprawling, magnificent view of the city we had completely conquered.

"The European divisions are reporting record profits, the Wren Vanguard Academy has officially recruited its first class of prodigies, and the federal government is terrified to even whisper our name," Julian reported, handing me a cup of coffee with a profound, satisfied smile.

"It’s a good morning, Julian," I said, taking a slow sip, feeling the crisp, completely free air of the executive suite.

He looked at me, the reflection of the gleaming skyscrapers caught in his eyes. "What does the boss want to conquer next today?"

I took a deep breath. The war for survival had ended long ago. The enemies had been buried under their own mistakes, their ruins serving as the foundation for our monolith. The past had been entirely left behind closed doors. Now, there were absolutely no more limits.

I looked out at the New Footprints project, standing prominent and proud in the distance—a physical manifestation of our unbreakable will.

"Nothing," I replied softly, a genuine, peaceful smile finally touching my lips.

Julian raised an eyebrow in surprise. "Nothing?"

"We’ve conquered everything, Julian," I said, leaning back in my chair, looking at the endless blue horizon. "The world knows our name. The legacy is secured. Today, we don't conquer. Today, we just enjoy the view."

This sky.

This city.

This life.

It completely belonged to me.
