Chapter 19 - The Counterattack
It took my financial investigation team exactly three days to find the source.
Money was routed through two shell companies to pay the journalist who wrote the smear piece.
It all led back to the Sterling Architecture Group.
Rose & Wren's biggest competitor.
I didn't call the police.
I didn't issue a correction in the papers.
I sent a thick dossier straight to the desk of Sterling's CEO.
Inside was all the evidence of their dirty transactions, along with a handwritten note from me:
"Either you publish a public apology and retraction on the front page of The Times tomorrow. Or I send this dossier to the FBI."
The next morning.
The front page of The Times featured a lengthy apology from the Sterling Group.
Their stock plummeted 15% in the morning trading session alone.
