Chapter 37 - The Mayfair Confrontation

Elena Vance was brilliant, ruthless, and had been instrumental in securing the domestic victories that built Rose & Wren. Her betrayal was a jagged, painful pill to swallow, but in the realm of absolute power, sentimentality is a fatal flaw. I didn't send security to apprehend her. I didn't call the authorities. I decided to handle the treason personally.

The rain was pouring in heavy, relentless sheets as Julian’s black SUV pulled up to the elegant Mayfair townhouse at 4:00 AM. We didn't bother knocking. Julian seamlessly bypassed the electronic security lock, and we stepped into the lavish, dimly lit foyer.

Elena was in her home office, illuminated only by the glow of her dual monitors. She was watching the progress bar of the stolen blueprints completing their transfer to Vanguard’s servers. She jumped violently when I pushed the mahogany door open, her face draining of all color as she realized she was completely trapped.

"I hope the payout from Sterling was worth destroying your career, Elena," I said, my voice entirely devoid of anger, radiating a terrifying, absolute calm.

"It's not what you think," Elena stammered, frantically trying to close the transfer windows, but Julian had already initiated a remote lockout of her hardware.

"Do not insult my intelligence," I replied, stepping further into the room. "You cloned David’s credentials, and then the CFO’s. You sold our European expansion strategy to Marcus Sterling because you thought Rose & Wren was going to lose this war, and you wanted to secure a golden parachute."

Elena slumped in her chair, the facade crumbling entirely. "Sterling threatened to blacklist me across the entire continent. He has the power to end careers with a single phone call. I was just trying to survive."

"The war for survival ended months ago," I corrected her coldly. "We are in the era of conquest. And you chose the wrong side."

"What are you going to do?" she whispered, terrified of the consequences.

"I am going to let you finish the transfer," I smiled, a dark, predatory expression that made her flinch. "You just handed Sterling a set of blueprints that are structurally doomed. When he attempts to build his rival project using our stolen data, his entire foundation will fail inspection, and Vanguard will face billions in regulatory fines. You aren't going to jail, Elena. You are going to go to work tomorrow, and you are going to continue feeding Sterling every single piece of poisoned data I give you."

Elena stared at me in horror, realizing I had just turned her into a double agent with a metaphorical gun to her head.

"If you refuse, Julian will release the definitive proof of your corporate espionage to the authorities before sunrise," I stated. "Welcome to the real war, Elena."
