Chapter 13 - The Boardroom

The board of directors wasn't entirely thrilled.
They were older men, always looking at me with thinly veiled skepticism.
They saw a disabled person.
They saw a child fresh out of a family war.
"This 'New Footprints' project requires a massive amount of capital," Mr. Vance, a board member, said coldly.
"The projected returns don't offset the risk."
I sat at the head of the table.
Twelve pairs of eyes fixed on me.
I didn't flinch.
"Mr. Vance, for the past ten years, this company prioritized short-term profits."
I tapped my finger on the blue notebook.
"And as a result, we were nearly bankrupted by the very men who used to sit in this room."
He flushed, clearing his throat.
"This project isn't just real estate."
I continued.
"It's a statement."
"That Rose & Wren doesn't just build soulless towers."
"We build futures."
"And if anyone in this room feels my vision is too risky..."
I swept my gaze across every face.
"...I am fully prepared to buy out your shares this afternoon."
No one spoke.
