Chapter 38 - The Sterling Trap

With our double agent firmly in place, the architecture of Vanguard's destruction began to take shape perfectly. Over the next two months, Elena dutifully fed Marcus Sterling a steady stream of highly sophisticated, meticulously poisoned intelligence. We allowed him to believe he was completely outmaneuvering us, manipulating his arrogance to blind his usually sharp instincts.

Believing he held the key to our technological advancements, Sterling initiated a massive, highly publicized waterfront development project meant to directly rival New Footprints. Vanguard poured billions of pounds into acquiring land and securing materials, completely confident that their stolen blueprints would allow them to build faster and cheaper than Rose & Wren.

"Sterling is officially breaking ground tomorrow morning," Julian reported, walking into my office with a victorious smirk. "He invited the Mayor of London, the press, and half of the British Parliament for the photo opportunity. He’s sinking fifty percent of Vanguard's liquid capital into this initial construction phase."

"He’s building a monument to his own hubris," I noted, reviewing the financial exposure charts. "And the regulatory inspectors?"

"I quietly submitted an anonymous tip to the Ministry of Housing and Local Government regarding potential load-bearing discrepancies in Vanguard’s new eco-concrete mixtures," Julian said, his eyes gleaming with calculated malice. "The inspectors are scheduled to arrive at Sterling’s site exactly one hour after his press conference concludes. When they run the structural stress tests based on the blueprints Elena gave him, the entire project will be hit with an immediate, indefinite stop-work order."

I walked over to the panoramic windows, looking out over the London skyline. The gray clouds were finally breaking, revealing brilliant streaks of sunlight. Rose & Wren’s own construction sites were operating flawlessly, completely insulated from the impending chaos.

"Sterling thought he could steal the future," I murmured, a deep sense of absolute control washing over me. "But he forgot that we designed the future. And we know exactly where the fatal flaws are hidden."

"Do you want to attend his groundbreaking ceremony?" Julian asked, already knowing the answer.

"No," I replied, turning away from the glass. "I want to watch the fallout from here. When the inspectors shut him down and his stock plummets, Vanguard’s board of directors is going to panic. That is the exact moment we initiate the hostile takeover. We aren't just going to beat Marcus Sterling; we are going to buy his empire for pennies on the dollar."
