Chapter 15 - The Architect of Light
To bring the "New Footprints" project to life, I needed a designer unconstrained by old rules.
That was when Julian arrived.
He was a young architect, known for minimalist designs that heavily prioritized natural light.
The first time he walked into my office, he didn't look at the wheelchair.
He looked straight into my eyes.
"All the hallways need to be one and a half times the standard width," I said, pointing at the blueprint.
Julian nodded.
"And we are completely eliminating door thresholds. Continuous flat surfaces."
"What about the lighting?" he asked.
"Maximum natural light. People who have been locked in the dark always crave the sky."
Julian smiled. A warm, genuine smile.
"I understand."
We worked together three days a week.
He listened to my ideas.
He didn't treat me like a dictatorial investor, nor did he treat me like a disabled person needing concessions.
