Chapter 39 - The Collapse of Vanguard

The implosion of Marcus Sterling’s highly publicized waterfront project was nothing short of a magnificent corporate tragedy. Just as Julian had orchestrated, the Ministry of Housing inspectors arrived precisely as Sterling was wrapping up his arrogant, self-congratulatory speech to the press. Within two hours, the structural stress tests confirmed massive, critical failures in the foundation architecture—the exact flaws we had engineered into the phantom blueprints.

By mid-afternoon, the news had completely saturated the financial networks. Vanguard Consortium Hit with Indefinite Stop-Work Order. Sterling's Eco-Project Deemed Structurally Unsafe. The fallout was instantaneous and utterly devastating. Investors panicked, terrified by the billions of pounds Vanguard had already sunk into the doomed project. When the London Stock Exchange closed for the day, Vanguard’s stock had plummeted by a staggering thirty-eight percent.

I sat in the penthouse command center, watching the red numbers cascade across the digital monitors. Julian was on the phone with our elite team of acquisition lawyers, coordinating the final strike.

"The Vanguard board of directors just called an emergency session," Julian announced, hanging up the secure line. "They are completely terrified. The regulatory fines alone are going to wipe out their cash reserves, and the banks are threatening to pull their credit lines based on gross negligence. Sterling is entirely cornered."

"It’s time," I said, standing up and adjusting my jacket. "Execute the hostile bid. Offer them a buyout at twenty percent below their current, crashed market valuation. Tell the board that if they don't accept our offer by midnight, Rose & Wren will publicly release the internal documents proving Vanguard intentionally utilized stolen, unverified blueprints."

Julian smiled, a sharp, dangerous expression. "Blackmail and a lowball offer. It’s absolutely ruthless."

"It’s business," I corrected smoothly. "Sterling tried to destroy us using our own people. I am simply closing the loop. Let’s go to their headquarters. I want to look Sterling in the eyes when I take his company."

We arrived at the Vanguard corporate tower in the financial district just as the sun was setting. The building, usually a bastion of old-world power and arrogance, felt like a sinking ship. The security guards didn't even try to stop us as we bypassed the reception desk and took the private elevator directly to the boardroom on the top floor. The final act of the European conquest was about to unfold.
