Chapter 23 - Closing the Past

I heard her stumbling footsteps leaving the lobby.
I didn't turn back.
I thought I would cry, but I didn't.
There was only a hollow emptiness inside me.
And absolute silence.
The tree called "family" had been entirely uprooted.
It was painful, but it was necessary.
Because sometimes, the only soil where you can grow again is soil cleared of toxic weeds.
When I returned to the elevators, Julian was waiting there.
He didn't ask anything.
He simply stepped into the elevator with me in silence.
And as the doors closed, he took my hand.
