Chapter 62

|

Noah sat perfectly still, recognizing the monumental weight of Julian's confession. The boy was trembling, his fingers hovering over a small, slightly raised scar at the base of his neck, hidden beneath his dark hair.

"What did you steal, Julian?" Noah asked, his voice incredibly gentle, radiating absolute safety.

"I was assigned to the primary server maintenance crew at the Alpha Campus," Julian explained, his words rushing out in a terrified, breathless cadence. "Because I was quiet, the guards ignored me. I spent six months meticulously bypassing Thorne's internal firewalls. I copied the master ledger. Everything. The trafficking routes, the offshore accounts, the real names of the 'donors', and the actual production value of the forced labor."

Noah’s heart hammered against his ribs. It was the holy grail. It was the exact evidence they needed to tear Apex Horizons down to its foundation.

"Where is the ledger?" Noah asked.

Julian swallowed hard. "It's on a micro-flash drive. I knew the security scanners at the gates would detect it if I carried it in my pocket. So... I hid it."

Julian pressed hard against the scar on his neck. He winced in pain.

"I stole a surgical scalpel from the infirmary," Julian whispered, tears welling in his eyes. "I cut a small pocket under my skin and pushed the drive inside. It was the only way to get it past the biometric scanners when I made a run for the fence during the blizzard."

Noah felt a profound wave of horror and immense respect wash over him. The sheer courage and desperate brilliance required for a sixteen-year-old boy to perform crude surgery on himself to secure the truth was staggering.

"You are incredibly brave, Julian," Noah said, standing up and pressing the call button for Dr. Evans. "But we need to get that out of you before it causes a severe infection."

Within minutes, Dr. Evans arrived. Operating under Noah's strict demand for absolute privacy, she administered a local anesthetic and carefully opened the small, crude incision on Julian's neck.

With a pair of sterilized tweezers, she extracted a tiny, blood-stained micro-flash drive, no larger than a fingernail.

Noah took the drive, wrapping it carefully in sterile gauze. He looked at Julian, who was letting out a long, shuddering sigh of relief.

"You just handed me the weapon to end Apex Horizons," Noah promised the boy. "Rest now. The nightmare is almost over."
