Chapter 59

|

The secure line in Noah's private office rang exactly at noon. The caller ID was entirely blank, bypassed by a highly sophisticated encryption protocol. Noah knew who it was before he even picked up the receiver.

"Noah Whitmore," Noah answered, his voice steady and completely composed.

"Mr. Whitmore," a smooth, baritone voice replied. It was cultured, incredibly polished, and practically dripped with wealthy arrogance. "This is Elias Thorne. I am the CEO of Apex Horizons."

"I know who you are," Noah said, leaning back in his leather chair, staring out the bay window at the snow-covered park. "To what do I owe the pleasure of a direct call? Your regional director didn't seem to make much progress yesterday."

"David is a blunt instrument," Thorne chuckled softly, though the sound was entirely devoid of warmth. "He lacks nuance. I prefer to speak CEO to CEO. I have tremendous respect for the Whitmore legacy, Noah. Your father was a titan of industry. It would be a profound tragedy for our two organizations to find themselves at odds."

"We are already at odds, Mr. Thorne," Noah corrected coldly. "I don't harbor human traffickers on my property, and I certainly don't negotiate with them."

There was a heavy, loaded silence on the other end of the line. The polite facade evaporated instantly.

"You are stepping into a very deep ocean, boy," Thorne’s voice dropped into a dangerous, threatening register. "You think because you took down a few local corrupt tycoons that you understand power. Apex Horizons is a pillar of the global economy. We provide order. We take the discarded refuse of society and give them purpose."

"You enslave them," Noah countered bluntly. "You lock them behind walls, slap GPS trackers on their wrists, and force them to generate billions in proprietary technology while you accept awards for philanthropy. It ends now, Thorne."

"You have absolutely no proof," Thorne sneered confidently. "Julian is a highly delusional, violent psychiatric patient. No court in the world will believe his unhinged ramblings over the impeccable documentation of Apex Horizons. Hand him over, Noah. If you don't, I will use every media outlet, every politician, and every legal loophole I own to absolutely annihilate the Whitmore Foundation."

"I look forward to the fight," Noah said softly. He didn't wait for Thorne to respond. He simply hung up the phone, severing the connection and sealing their inevitable war.
