Chapter 45

|

Later that evening, the celebration had moved out onto the main lawns. Noah retreated to his quiet office for a moment of peace. He sat at his desk, watching the sunset paint the Greenwich sky in vibrant shades of orange and purple.

Evelyn walked in quietly, carrying a small, weathered wooden box. She sat down across from him, her expression soft and deeply emotional.

"I found this in the old basement archives while we were clearing space for the new legal wing," Evelyn said, sliding the box across the desk. "It was in a sealed lockbox belonging to your father."

Noah’s breath caught. He opened the wooden box. Inside was a single, sealed envelope with his name written on it in Daniel’s familiar, strong handwriting.

With trembling fingers, Noah broke the seal and unfolded the letter.

“My dearest Noah, if you are reading this, I am gone. I write this not knowing what the future holds, but knowing exactly who you are. You have faced more pain in your early years than most men face in a lifetime. I know there are days you feel broken by this world. But I need you to know something. You are not broken. You are forged.”

Tears blurred Noah’s vision as he read his father's words.

“I built a foundation of stone, but stones can crumble. You, my son, have a heart of iron. Do not let the cruelty of others make you cold. Protect the vulnerable, stand tall in the storm, and never forget how incredibly proud I am to be your father. The legacy is yours now. Make it brighter.”

Noah carefully folded the letter, a profound, overwhelming sense of closure washing over him. The lingering doubts, the shadows of the past, completely vanished.

Evelyn reached across the desk, taking his hand. "He knew, Noah. He always knew you would be the one to save us all."

"I miss him," Noah whispered, wiping a tear from his cheek.

"He is right here," Evelyn smiled, pressing her hand against Noah’s heart. "In everything you do."
