Chapter 49

|

Five years later.

The Whitmore Foundation was no longer just a single estate in Greenwich, Connecticut. It was a globally recognized beacon of hope, with fully operational, state-of-the-art pediatric therapy centers in London, Tokyo, Sydney, and Toronto.

Noah sat in his expansive office in the original Greenwich headquarters. He was twenty-four years old now, a seasoned, globally respected CEO. He looked at the live feeds on his computer monitor, showing children receiving free, world-class care on four different continents.

The door to his office opened, and Maya walked in. She was no longer just a therapist; she was the Global Director of Rehabilitative Medicine for the foundation. She was also his wife.

"You're working late again, Mr. Chairman," Maya teased gently, walking around the desk to wrap her arms around his neck and press a kiss to his cheek.

"Just reviewing the blueprints for the new center in Brazil," Noah smiled, leaning back into her embrace. "How was your day?"

"Exhausting, but wonderful," Maya replied, sitting on the edge of his desk. "Little Sarah took her first steps today in the aquatic center. Evelyn was there; she actually cried."

Noah’s smile widened. Evelyn had officially retired from the daily operations two years ago, but she still visited the children every single week, carrying the same fierce, maternal love that had saved Noah's life.

"Mom loves this place as much as we do," Noah said, taking Maya’s hand.

"We built something incredible, Noah," Maya whispered, looking at the monitors displaying the global network of healing. "You built an empire."

"An empire of light," Noah corrected softly. "Come on. Let's go home."

Noah grabbed his crutches and stood up, switching off the monitors. As they walked out of the office together, the shadows of the past were entirely non-existent. The future was impossibly bright.
