Chapter 60

Elias Thorne did not make idle threats. By eight o'clock the next morning, the retaliatory strike began, not with bullets or thugs, but with a devastating, highly coordinated digital and public relations assault.

Noah stood in the administration wing, watching the news feeds cycle rapidly across the massive wall monitors. Sarah was on the phone, aggressively barking orders to their external PR firms, while Marcus directed the cybersecurity team to brace the internal networks.

"They are hitting us everywhere," Sarah announced, slamming her desk phone down. "Thorne’s media conglomerates just launched a massive smear campaign. They are running heavily edited hit pieces claiming the Whitmore Foundation operates as an unregulated, dangerous cult. They are accusing us of harboring violent fugitives and refusing to cooperate with legitimate medical institutions."

"What about our donors?" Noah asked, his eyes tracking the scrolling red ticker on the news channels.

"Several corporate sponsors have already called to 'suspend' their partnerships pending an independent investigation," Sarah grimaced. "Thorne is using his influence to choke our operational funding. If this narrative takes hold, the state might try to pull our operational licenses for the sanctuary."

"Let them try," Noah said, remaining entirely calm amidst the chaos. "Our endowment is fully self-sustaining. We don't need external corporate sponsors to keep the lights on. Let Thorne burn his resources on a media circus. It proves he is desperate."

"He's not just using the media, Noah," Marcus interrupted, striding into the room with a tablet. "We are experiencing massive denial-of-service attacks on all our public servers. They are trying to crash our security grid. They want to blind us so they can send an extraction team in for Julian under the cover of the digital blackout."

"Route all critical security functions to the analog backup generators," Noah commanded instantly. "Lock down the physical perimeter. Nobody comes through those gates without my direct authorization. If Thorne wants to play dirty, we show him exactly how impenetrable this fortress really is."

The staff mobilized with the precision of a trained military unit. They had faced corruption before, and they knew the protocol. The Whitmore legacy was not a fragile glass house; it was a bunker. And Noah was entirely prepared to weather the storm.
