The sound of approaching sirens wailed in the distance, growing louder by the second.
Marcus Vance stepped up to the microphones, holding a thick legal binder.
"For the record," Marcus announced with professional authority, "the Whitmore Foundation has formally filed federal charges of extortion, corporate sabotage, and conspiracy to commit medical fraud against Dr. Silas Mercer and Aegis Therapeutics. The FBI is currently executing a raid on the Aegis headquarters in Boston."
Silas Mercer froze, trapped between the angry mob of reporters and the locked iron gates of the foundation. Two federal squad cars screeched to a halt on the street behind him, blocking his limousine.
Federal agents stepped out, moving swiftly through the crowd.
"Silas Mercer, you are under arrest for federal fraud, witness tampering, and conspiracy," the lead agent declared, spinning the CEO around and snapping heavy steel handcuffs onto his wrists.
The cameras flashed wildly, capturing the spectacular, humiliating downfall of the billionaire doctor. Silas didn't scream or fight; he just stared at the ground in absolute, defeated shock as he was shoved into the back of a federal vehicle.
Noah watched the car drive away, feeling a profound sense of relief wash over him. He turned to David Collins and Maya.
"Thank you," Noah said softly. "You both just saved hundreds of kids from going through what you did."
"No, Noah," David smiled weakly, his eyes shining with tears. "You saved me. For three years, I felt like a coward for taking their money and staying quiet. Today, I finally got my dignity back."
Evelyn walked up beside Noah, wrapping her arm proudly around his waist. She looked out at the reporters, who were now eager to hear a statement of victory.

"The fifty million dollar donation from Aegis Therapeutics is formally rejected," Evelyn announced to the press. "The Whitmore Foundation will continue to rely on the generosity of honest, compassionate donors. We will repair the aquatic center, and we will open it next month as promised. Because this foundation cannot be bought, and it cannot be broken."
The crowd erupted in spontaneous, genuine applause. The war with Aegis was over, and the fortress of healing remained standing.
