Chapter 48

Later that evening, back at their elegant London hotel, Evelyn and Marcus sat in the quiet lounge, sipping glasses of vintage wine. Through the glass doors, they could see Noah and Maya—who had flown in to consult on the physical therapy layout for the new London center—walking together along the riverfront, laughing and holding hands.
"They make a wonderful team," Marcus observed, a gentle smile on his face.
"They do," Evelyn agreed, her heart incredibly full as she watched her son. "She understands his drive. She isn't intimidated by the legacy; she wants to help him build it."
Marcus took a slow sip of his wine, looking at Evelyn with a profound, quiet respect. "You know, Evelyn... we did it. When Daniel died, and the entire world tried to crush you, you stood in front of that boy and took every bullet."
Evelyn looked down at her wine glass, the memories of the dark years rushing back—the fire, the lawsuits, the betrayals. "I just did what any mother would do, Marcus. I fought for my child."
"You did more than that," Marcus corrected gently. "You raised a king. Look at him out there. He doesn't need us to protect him anymore. He is protecting the world."
Evelyn smiled, a tear of absolute, pure joy slipping down her cheek. "It’s time, isn't it? Time for the old guard to step back."

"The board will always need your wisdom," Marcus said. "But yes. The Whitmore Foundation is fully his now. The torch is passed."
Evelyn looked out at the London lights reflecting on the water, feeling a peace so deep it anchored her very soul. She had won the longest, hardest war of her life. Her son was safe, he was loved, and he was changing the world.
