Chapter 32 - The Fall of the House of Harrington

As if on cue, the wail of police sirens echoed loudly from the city streets below, growing rapidly closer until they stopped directly outside the Plaza Hotel.
Victoria froze, her entire body locking up in absolute, paralyzing terror. She looked around the ballroom. The people who had worshipped her, who had kissed her ring for decades, were now staring at her with undisguised disgust and self-preserving distance.
"You... you ruined me,"
Victoria whispered, looking down at Isabella with a gaze of pure, terrifying malice.
"You ruined yourself, Victoria,"
Isabella corrected her, her voice devoid of any pity.
"You thought you could separate us, manipulate us, and turn us into empty vessels for your ambition. You thought love was a weakness. You were wrong."
Julian didn't wait for the authorities. He turned on his heel and sprinted down the back hallway of the hotel, abandoning his grandmother entirely to save his own skin.
"I will destroy you in court!"
Victoria screamed, gripping the banister as tears of pure, humiliated rage streamed down her wrinkled face.
"I will ensure you both rot in the gutter!"
