Chapter 28 - The Dresses of Defiance

Preparing for the gala was not about blending in; it was about preparing for absolute, psychological warfare.

Isabella utilized a fraction of the emergency funds she had legally transferred to herself years ago to rent a private, high-end bridal and eveningwear boutique for two hours.

"I haven't worn a dress like this since my high school prom, Izzy,"

Amelia said, staring at herself in the massive, floor-to-ceiling mirror.

She was wearing a breathtaking, sweeping gown of deep emerald green silk that perfectly matched her eyes. It was elegant, powerful, and utterly devoid of the overly ornate, tacky embellishments that Victoria’s social circle favored.

"You look like a queen,"

Isabella said softly, standing behind her sister.

Isabella had chosen a razor-sharp, tailored evening tuxedo in midnight black, paired with a stark white silk shirt and stiletto heels. She did not want to look like a princess returning to the fold. She wanted to look like an executioner.

"Are you sure we can do this?"

Amelia asked, her hands trembling slightly as she smoothed the silk of her dress.

"She is going to try to humiliate us."

Isabella reached out, grabbing Amelia’s hands and holding them tightly.

"She spent thirty years trying to convince me that I was a monster and that you were nothing,"

May you like

Isabella whispered fiercely.

"Tonight, we show them that we are unbreakable. Together."
