Chapter 44 - The Sanctuary Visit

Despite the global accolades, Claire always returned to the ground level.
She walked into the main courtyard of the flagship Haven Center in the city. The sun was shining brightly, illuminating the massive, beautiful garden where women and children were laughing, playing, and breathing freely.
She saw a little girl, no older than five, running across the grass with a brightly colored kite trailing behind her.
Her mother, a woman who had arrived at the center three months ago completely broken, was sitting on a wooden bench, smiling a genuine, radiant smile as she watched her daughter play.
Claire sat down on the bench next to her.
"She is beautiful,"
Claire said softly.
The woman looked at Claire, her eyes filling with deep, overwhelming gratitude.
"She laughed out loud yesterday for the first time in two years,"
The woman whispered, wiping a tear from her cheek.
"Because of you, Ms. Sterling. Because of this place. We are finally safe."
Claire reached out and squeezed the woman’s hand, feeling the profound, unbreakable bond of shared survival.
"You did the hardest part,"
May you like
Claire smiled warmly.
"You walked out the door. The rest is just rebuilding."
