Chapter 23 - The Glass Battlefield

The black sedan pulled smoothly into the underground VIP parking garage of the Sterling Enterprises skyscraper.
Claire stepped out of the vehicle, the sharp, authoritative click of her stiletto heels echoing through the cavernous concrete structure. She wore an immaculate, tailored charcoal-gray pantsuit that fit her like modern armor, paired with a crisp, stark white silk blouse.
Her posture was flawless, her chin held high, radiating a cold, calculated power that demanded instant submission from anyone who crossed her path.
She entered the private executive elevator, scanning her biometric ID to access the top floor of the building. The glass elevator shot upward, offering a dizzying, spectacular view of the sprawling metropolis below.
When the doors slid open on the fiftieth floor, her executive team was already waiting for her in the vast, open-plan reception area.
"Are all the proxy board members present?"
Claire asked, walking briskly past the mahogany reception desk without breaking her stride.
"Yes, Ms. Sterling,"
David, her incredibly efficient chief of staff, answered, falling into step right beside her.
"Richard Vance and the remaining Vanguard shareholders are seated in Boardroom A. They are extremely hostile, as expected."
"Hostility is just fear disguised as anger, David,"
Claire noted smoothly, her eyes fixed on the heavy glass doors at the end of the hallway.
"Ensure the legal team has the asset liquidation files ready to project on the main screen the moment I sit down."
"Already done,"
David confirmed, pulling open the heavy boardroom doors for her.
The atmosphere inside the massive boardroom was instantly suffocating, thick with the bitter tension of men who knew they were about to be utterly defeated by a woman they had once severely underestimated.
Seven older, wealthy men in expensive suits sat around the long marble table. At the far end sat Richard Vance, Ethan’s former right-hand man, glaring at Claire with undisguised contempt.
Claire did not hesitate. She walked directly to the head of the table, placing her leather portfolio down with a sharp, definitive smack that made two of the junior executives flinch.
"Good morning, gentlemen,"
Claire stated, her voice echoing coldly against the glass walls.
"Let us dispense with the pleasantries. You know exactly why I have called this emergency shareholder meeting."
Richard leaned forward, resting his elbows aggressively on the marble table.
"You cannot simply force a hostile buyout of Vanguard, Claire,"
Richard sneered, intentionally using her first name to undermine her authority.
"The bylaws specifically require a two-thirds majority vote for a total asset liquidation."
Claire looked at Richard with a gaze so entirely devoid of emotion that the older man actually blinked and shifted uncomfortably in his leather chair.
"It is Ms. Sterling to you, Richard,"
Claire corrected him, her voice dropping to a dangerously quiet register.
"And as of 6:00 AM this morning, I successfully acquired the controlling shares of the three shell companies hiding in the Cayman Islands that you foolishly thought were untraceable."
Richard’s face drained of all color, turning a sickly, ashen gray.
May you like
"That is impossible,"
He whispered, his arrogant facade instantly shattering into a million pieces.
