Chapter 27 - The Global Expansion
A year flowed by, marked not by fear, but by unprecedented, monumental growth.
Sterling Enterprises had fundamentally changed its core DNA under Claire’s absolute leadership. It was no longer a cutthroat corporate machine designed solely to hoard wealth. It was an engine of social change, and the Haven Foundation was its beating heart.
Claire sat at the head of a massive, state-of-the-art conference table in Geneva, Switzerland.
Outside the glass walls, the snow-capped peaks of the Alps gleamed brilliantly under the midday sun. Inside the room, representatives from fourteen different countries sat with their tablets and legal portfolios, hanging onto Claire’s every word.
"The pilot program in North America has exceeded our most optimistic projections,"
Claire stated, tapping her digital stylus against the screen to bring up a global heat map.
"We have successfully extracted and relocated over four thousand victims in the last twelve months. But the epidemic of domestic violence does not respect international borders. And neither will we."
She zoomed the map out to display Europe, South America, and Southeast Asia.
"We are officially expanding the Haven Foundation globally. I have already secured the real estate for three new rapid-response centers in London, São Paulo, and Tokyo,"
Claire announced, her voice radiating absolute, unshakeable confidence.
The international delegates nodded in agreement, frantically taking notes. There was no hesitation, no pushback, and no arrogant men trying to interrupt her or question her authority. She had cultivated a board of fierce, brilliant, and deeply empathetic leaders who believed entirely in her vision.
"Ms. Sterling,"
A high-ranking diplomat from the European Union raised her hand respectfully.
"The funding required for an infrastructure expansion of this magnitude is astronomical. Can the foundation sustain this without relying on volatile government grants?"
Claire smiled, a sharp, brilliant expression that always preceded her most devastating corporate maneuvers.
"The foundation will not rely on government grants,"
Claire replied smoothly.
"Because Sterling Enterprises has just successfully executed a hostile takeover of the two largest private defense contractors that Ethan’s former associates attempted to hide their remaining capital in. We liquidated them yesterday at market open."
A shocked, incredibly impressed murmur rippled through the boardroom.
"Their dirty money is going to fund our safe houses for the next fifty years,"
