Chapter 42 - The Confession

The fire pit on the deck crackled softly, casting a warm, flickering glow across their faces.
Elias reached into his pocket, his expression turning incredibly serious, yet filled with a profound, radiant joy.
"Claire,"
Elias began, his voice dropping to a low, intimate register.
"I have spent my entire life building firewalls to protect things. But you are the only person who ever made me want to tear all my own walls down."
Claire’s breath hitched, her heart fluttering against her ribs.
Elias did not get down on one knee. He did not offer a traditional gesture of submission or ownership. He sat right beside her, perfectly equal, and opened a small, velvet box.
Inside was not a massive, ostentatious diamond designed to show off wealth. It was a beautiful, custom-forged band of intertwined platinum and rose gold, representing two unbreakable forces coming together.
"I don't want to own you. I don't want to protect you from a world you have already conquered,"
Elias whispered fiercely, looking directly into her soul.
"I just want to stand beside you, in the light, for the rest of our lives. Will you marry me?"
Tears of pure, absolute happiness spilled over Claire’s cheeks.
"Yes,"
May you like
Claire sobbed, throwing her arms around his neck.
"Yes, Elias. A thousand times, yes."
