Chapter 41 - The Quiet Evening

Claire left the headquarters and drove out to the coastal cliffs, where Elias had built a stunning, modern glass house overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
The sun was setting, casting a brilliant tapestry of gold and crimson across the water.
Elias was waiting for her on the expansive wooden deck, two glasses of red wine resting on the small table between them.
Claire walked out onto the deck, dropping her briefcase near the door, and wrapped her arms around his waist from behind, resting her cheek against his strong back.
"Rough day?"
Elias asked softly, turning around to envelop her in a warm, fiercely protective embrace.
"No,"
Claire murmured, closing her eyes and listening to the steady, reassuring beat of his heart.
"It was a profoundly beautiful day."
They sat together on the plush outdoor sofa, watching the waves crash against the jagged rocks below. Claire told him about Ethan’s death, her voice carrying no weight, no hidden trauma.
"It feels strange,"
Claire admitted, looking out at the horizon.
"To know that the monster who once controlled my entire universe is just... gone. And my universe didn't even blink."
"Because you became the universe, Claire,"
May you like
Elias said, taking her hand and kissing her pale scars with absolute reverence.
"You outgrew his darkness, and you filled the world with your own light."
