Chapter 35 - The Ambush

Victor spotted Claire and immediately began walking toward her, surrounded by two massive, menacing bodyguards.

Marcus, standing discreetly in the shadows, immediately stepped forward to intercept, but Claire raised a single, commanding finger, signaling her security chief to hold his ground.

She did not need protection from a ghost.

"Claire,"

Victor sneered, stopping a few feet away, his eyes raking over her scars with deliberate, cruel judgment.

"I must say, I am surprised to see you flaunting the damage Ethan left behind. Most women would have the decency to cover themselves."

Elias tensed, his jaw locking, preparing to step forward, but Claire gently squeezed his arm, holding him back.

"And I am surprised to see you showing your face in public, Victor,"

Claire replied, her voice echoing smoothly over the classical music playing in the background.

"Especially considering your primary holding companies just filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy this morning."

Victor’s arrogant smile faltered, a flash of genuine panic widening his eyes.

"You think you are so clever,"

Victor hissed, stepping closer, dropping the facade of high-society politeness.

"I know Ethan left the ledger containing the names of the international judges he bribed. Give me the digital keys to the Vanguard archives, Claire, or I will leak heavily manipulated documents to the press proving that the Haven Foundation is funded by cartel money."
