Chapter 40 - Arrival in Geneva

The Swiss Alps loomed beneath the jet, their snow-capped peaks piercing the clouds like jagged teeth.
The Vanguard summit was being held in an ultra-secure, subterranean facility beneath a massive, historical chateau on the edge of Lake Geneva. It was heavily guarded, monitored by advanced drones, and entirely cut off from local law enforcement.
The jet touched down on a private, abandoned airstrip near the French border.
Daniel pulled on his black tactical vest, securing his combat knife and primary rifle. Jax checked his explosive charges, a grim, eager smile on his face. Valeria strapped a sleek, compact submachine gun to her chest rig.
They walked off the jet, their boots crunching against the frosty tarmac. The cold European wind whipped at their jackets.
For months, Vanguard had hunted them like prey. They had assumed Valeria was nothing but a fragile genetic experiment, and Daniel nothing but a spoiled rich kid caught in the crossfire.
