Chapter 27 - The Slip
For three months, the cabin was a paradise. Aria grew rapidly, exhibiting an alarming intelligence and strength that terrified and amazed her parents. She was the ultimate evolution of humanity, hidden away in the frozen woods.
But isolation requires supplies. Aria needed a specific formula that the bunker’s dry stores couldn't provide.
Daniel was forced to make a supply run to a tiny logging town forty miles away. He took a snowmobile, keeping his face obscured by a heavy balaclava and goggles.
He paid in cash at the local pharmacy. He kept his head down. He did everything right.
But as he exited the store, a tourist bumped into him, knocking Daniel's goggles askew for exactly three seconds.
Above the door, a dusty, cheap security camera captured his face.
