Chapter 31 - Whiteout
The lead Vanguard snowmobile hit the tripwire.
"Now," Daniel commanded.
Valeria squeezed the detonator.
The treeline erupted into a massive, blinding wall of fire and snow. Three snowmobiles were instantly vaporized, sending operatives flying into the freezing air. The deafening shockwave shattered the silence of the night.
Before the surviving operatives could recover, Daniel opened fire. The suppressed thwip-thwip-thwip of his sniper rifle echoed softly, but the results were devastating. Two more Vanguard soldiers dropped, their thermal signatures fading into the snow.

"Spread out! Suppressive fire!" Silas roared over the comms, kicking the door of the snow-cat open and diving behind a massive pine tree.
The Vanguard forces unleashed a barrage of heavy machine-gun fire toward the cabin, shattering the bulletproof glass and shredding the timber walls.
