Chapter 32 - The Breach
Daniel couldn't hold them all off from the roof. He dropped a smoke grenade and rappelled down the side of the cabin, ducking through the shattered kitchen window just as a hail of armor-piercing rounds tore through the space he had just occupied.
"They are advancing on the porch!" Daniel shouted, flipping a heavy oak table to create a barricade.
The front door exploded inward, blown off its hinges by a breaching charge. Four Vanguard operatives flooded into the living room, their laser sights cutting through the smoke.
Daniel engaged in brutal, close-quarters combat. He emptied his sidearm, dropping two, then drew his combat knife, driving it upward into the ribs of the third. But the fourth operative swung the butt of his rifle, catching Daniel in the jaw and sending him crashing to the floor.

The operative aimed his weapon at Daniel's head.
A three-round burst from the basement stairwell caught the operative in the chest, dropping him instantly. Valeria stood at the top of the stairs, her MP5 smoking, her eyes completely devoid of mercy.
