Winter deepened, blanketing the Canadian wilderness in six feet of snow. They were utterly cut off from the world, which was exactly what they needed, because Valeria’s time had come.
It started during a vicious blizzard. The wind howled against the timber walls, shaking the glass. Valeria gripped the edge of the kitchen island, a sudden, sharp gasp escaping her lips as the first major contraction hit.
"Daniel!" she called out, her voice tight with pain.
