Chapter 57

The drive back to the Maryland safehouse was incredibly tense, the silence in the van heavy with the gravity of what they had just stolen. They had crossed a dangerous point of no return. They didn't just have evidence against a corrupt lawyer anymore; they held the political death warrant of one of the most powerful men in the country.
As soon as they rushed through the doors of the safehouse, Michael tossed the drive to Ethan, who was already waiting at his terminal.
"Verify the data," Nathan ordered, shedding his soaking wet tuxedo jacket. "Make sure the file isn't corrupted or encrypted."
Ethan plugged the drive into his secure laptop. His fingers danced across the keyboard. A tense minute passed before he let out a sharp, genuine breath of relief. "It's all here. Every single offshore transaction. It ties Thorne directly to the cartel's shell companies. It proves he ordered the hit on Vance, and it proves he was laundering billions of dollars through his committee."
"This is it," Sarah said, looking at the screen, her eyes wide with absolute disbelief. "This is the silver bullet. With this ledger, I can bypass the Bureau entirely and take this directly to the Attorney General. Thorne will be indicted by morning."
"No," Claire said suddenly, her voice cutting through the celebratory atmosphere. "We are not handing this over to the government."
Everyone turned to look at her in utter shock.
"Claire, this is federal evidence," Sarah argued gently. "This is how the justice system works."
"The system is exactly what protected Thorne for the last decade," Claire countered fiercely, her eyes blazing with absolute conviction. "The system allowed him to murder Arthur Vance in a federal cell. If we hand this to the Attorney General, it gets buried in classified hearings and sealed indictments. Thorne will use his remaining leverage to negotiate a quiet resignation and a pardon."

"What are you suggesting?" Nathan asked, already knowing the answer, feeling a profound surge of pride for his wife.
"We use the Foundation," Claire stated, pointing directly at the laptop. "Nathan said it at the gala. We are the shield. We are the ones who refuse to be quiet. Ethan, I want you to format that ledger. We are going to broadcast the unredacted truth to every major news outlet, independent journalist, and public server on the planet. We don't let the government judge him. We let the world judge him."
