Chapter 18

The heavy oak doors of the Harper mansion flew open as Agent Sarah Collins stepped inside, shaking the rain from her coat.

The entire family was gathered around the massive dining room table. The atmosphere was thick with a terrifying, suffocating tension that felt entirely cinematic, like a war council bracing for a siege.

"I came as soon as I saw your message," Sarah said, dropping her briefcase onto the table. "You need to see what I found at the bureau this morning."

"We have something to show you first," Nathan said, his voice devoid of emotion.

He turned the laptop screen toward Sarah, playing the distorted video file Ethan had extracted from the envelope.

Sarah watched the digital ghost deliver his terrifying ultimatum. Her jaw tightened, and she let out a slow, heavy breath.

"It matches," Sarah said quietly.

"Matches what?" Claire demanded, leaning forward.

"At 3:00 AM last night, fifty million dollars was siphoned out of Marcus's frozen federal accounts," Sarah explained, opening a forensic ledger from her briefcase. "Someone bypassed our highest security protocols. Marcus didn't run the syndicate. This guy does."

Michael, who had been sitting silently at the end of the table, suddenly buried his face in his hands.

"Michael?" Nathan asked, turning to his brother. "What is it?"

"I know who he is," Michael whispered, his voice trembling violently.

The room went dead silent. Emily looked up at her father with wide, terrified eyes.

"Before..." Michael swallowed hard, looking at Emily, then at Nathan. "Before Emily's mother went to prison, she came to me. She was terrified. She said Marcus was terrified, too."

"Terrified of who, Michael?" Sarah asked, her federal training instantly taking over.

"She called him Silas," Michael choked out. "She said he was a ghost. A cryptographer who built the dark web financial routing systems for the cartels. He invested fifty million of his own cartel money into Marcus's fraudulent fund. When you exposed Marcus, Nathan... you exposed Silas's money."

Nathan slammed his fist onto the heavy wooden table, the sound echoing like a gunshot.

"You knew this?" Nathan shouted, his composure finally shattering. "You knew there was a cartel ghost behind Marcus, and you didn't tell us?"

"She told me he didn't care about us!" Michael yelled back, standing up. "She said he only cared about the money! I thought when the FBI seized it, it was over!"

"It's never over with these people, Michael," Sarah interrupted coldly. "Silas Vance is a myth in the bureau. We've chased his digital shadow for a decade. If he's targeting your family..."

"He isn't getting my son," Nathan said, stepping in front of Ethan. "And he isn't getting the foundation's money. We fight."
