Chapter 48

Preparation for the infiltration of Senator Thorne’s estate required absolute precision and total secrecy. The Harper family temporarily relocated to a safehouse located in rural Maryland, a heavily fortified cabin surrounded by dense forest that Sarah Collins had secured completely off the books. It was isolated, devoid of digital surveillance, and perfectly suited for planning a high-stakes heist against a federal target.

In the living room, Michael had pinned a sprawling blueprint of Thorne’s Virginia estate to a large corkboard. The property was a fortress, protected by high stone walls, private paramilitary security guards, and a state-of-the-art laser grid system that monitored the perimeter.

"Thorne is hosting an exclusive political fundraiser this Saturday evening," Sarah explained, tapping a marker against the blueprints. "Over three hundred guests, catering staff, and valets. It’s the perfect cover. The sheer volume of people will force his security team to spread their resources thin, focusing primarily on crowd control."

"I can forge digital invitations and inject our aliases into the guest registry," Ethan offered, sitting cross-legged on the sofa with his laptop. "But once you're inside, you're on your own. Thorne’s private server room is located in the sub-basement. It’s protected by a biometric lock and a localized pressure pad system."

"I will handle the security systems," Michael stated confidently, adjusting his posture. His extensive background in private security and physical infiltration made him perfectly suited for the dangerous task. "Nathan, you and Sarah will attend the gala in formal wear. You are the distraction. You keep Thorne occupied in the main ballroom while I slip downstairs and breach the server room."

Claire looked at the blueprints, her expression deeply concerned. "What happens if Michael gets caught in the sub-basement? Thorne’s guards won't call the police. They will quietly eliminate the threat."

"That's why I am going with him," Claire stated, surprising everyone in the room. "I spent a decade organizing galas exactly like this one. I know how the catering staff moves, where the blind spots in the service corridors are, and how to talk my way out of restricted areas. Michael needs a spotter who speaks the language of high society."

Nathan looked at his wife, seeing the unbreakable resolve in her eyes. "Are you absolutely sure about this, Claire?"

"We started this fight together," Claire replied fiercely. "We finish it together."
