Chapter 4 - Shadows in the Waiting Room
Elena sat in the hospital waiting room, her hands heavily bandaged. Mateo sat beside her, his clothes still stained with the dirt of the garden and the sweat of the struggle. He stared at his mother, his mind racing.
"Mom," Mateo said softly, breaking the tense silence. "What did Teresa mean? When she was being arrested... she said the baby wasn't the only heir. She said to ask you why you've lived in that house for thirty years."

Elena closed her eyes. Her breath hitched, and the steady facade she had maintained for decades began to crack. "It is not the time, Mateo," she whispered, looking away.
"It is exactly the time," Mateo pressed, his voice firm but gentle. "Daniel tried to kill his own wife and child for that inheritance. What are you hiding?"
