Chapter 13 - Desperate Measures
Teresa was not a woman who accepted defeat. From her jail cell, she used a smuggled burner phone to contact her remaining loyalists—shady fixers who handled the family's dirty work.
"I need them eliminated," Teresa whispered furiously into the phone. "The gardener and the pregnant widow. Make it look like a home invasion."
But Teresa grossly underestimated the new head of security, who had intercepted the call. The fixers never made it past the estate's outer gates. They were apprehended by Mateo's heavily armed guards and handed directly to the police, adding conspiracy to commit murder to Teresa's growing list of charges.
