Chapter 35 - The Confrontation

Mateo stepped out of the center SUV.
He walked slowly, deliberately up the metal stairs of the prison bus.
He walked down the narrow aisle, the harsh fluorescent lights flickering overhead, until he stood directly over his brother.
Daniel looked up, his eyes burning with pure, unadulterated hatred. He strained violently against his heavy steel chains, his face twisted into a monstrous sneer.
"You think you won, gardener?"
Daniel hissed, spitting on the floor.
"I am a Santillán. This empire belongs to me. I will find a way out of here, and I will tear your heart out."
Mateo did not yell. He did not hit his brother. He simply looked down at him with a profound, heavy, ancient sadness.
"You are not a Santillán,"
May you like
Mateo stated, his voice echoing clearly in the quiet bus.
"A true legacy is built on protecting your family, not murdering them for money. You are nothing but a pathetic, cowardly ghost. And today, I am permanently exorcising you from our lives."
