The gala was immediately, quietly evacuated by the security team under the guise of a "fire code violation."

Deep in the soundproof, concrete basement of the corporate headquarters, Sterling was violently thrown into a heavy steel chair. He was sweating profusely, his expensive tuxedo completely ruined.

Mateo walked into the dark room, slowly unbuttoning his jacket.

"You tried to murder the mother of my nephew,"

Mateo stated, his voice a low, terrifying rumble that echoed in the concrete chamber.

"I am a senior executive! You cannot hold me here! This is kidnapping!"

Sterling shrieked, his voice cracking with pure, unadulterated terror.

"I am not going to hold you here,"

Mateo replied, leaning over the table, his eyes burning with the fierce, protective rage of a man defending his family.

"I am going to hand you over to the federal authorities for attempted murder. But before I do, you are going to tell me exactly how you communicated with my brother inside a supermax prison."

"I don't know what you are talking about!"

Sterling wept, thrashing against the zip-ties binding his wrists.

"The aconite was purchased using an offshore account routed through the Cayman Islands,"

Reyes interjected, placing a thick financial dossier on the table.

"An account that only Daniel Santillán has the access codes to. You are his proxy on the outside. Talk, or we let the police handle your treason."
