Chapter 2 - The Crime Scene

Back at the sprawling estate, the party had devolved into a massive crime scene. Flashing red and blue lights illuminated the stone fountains and the torn white curtains of the balcony.

Daniel sat in the back of a police cruiser, his wrists bound tightly in steel cuffs. He stared blankly ahead, his jaw clenched. In the cruiser next to him, Teresa was screaming at a stoic police officer, demanding to speak to her lawyers.

Upstairs, forensic investigators were meticulously bagging evidence. The head of security directed them to the balcony. "Check the bolts on the railing," he instructed. "They didn't just snap. They were unscrewed." On the marble floor, a bloody knife lay sealed in a clear evidence bag, its serrated edge still carrying white fibers from the curtain Daniel had cut. The physical proof of their attempted murder was undeniable.
