Chapter 34 - The Intercept

The armored prison transport bus rumbled down the desolate, empty desert highway under the cover of darkness.
Daniel sat in the back, heavily shackled to a steel bench, his mind completely consumed by madness and despair.
Suddenly, the massive transport bus slammed on its brakes, the heavy tires screaming against the asphalt.
The road ahead was completely blocked by three sleek, black, heavily armored SUVs.
"What the hell is going on?"
The prison driver shouted, reaching for his shotgun.
The doors of the SUVs opened. Dozens of heavily armed private military contractors, wearing tactical gear completely devoid of any identifying insignia, surrounded the bus.
Reyes stepped forward, holding up a federal injunction signed by the highest judge in the state.
"We are conducting an emergency security audit of this transport,"

Reyes announced, his voice amplified by a megaphone.
The prison guards, massively outnumbered and completely outgunned, wisely lowered their weapons and unlocked the heavy steel doors of the bus.
