Chapter 26 - The Sister's Fall

While Carmen rotted in a concrete cell, Fernanda’s descent into poverty was swift, brutal, and utterly humiliating.

Stripped of the house, the cars, and the limitless credit cards her brother had fraudulently funded, Fernanda found herself sleeping on the floor of a tiny, roach-infested studio apartment on the far outskirts of the city.

Without a university degree, without any actual work experience, and permanently blacklisted from every respectable company due to Elena’s quiet influence, Fernanda had no choice but to take the only job she could find.

She was hired as a late-night janitor at a massive, bustling shopping mall—the very same luxury mall where she used to spend thousands of pesos on designer shoes and laugh at the working-class employees.

Her hands, once perfectly manicured and soft, were now cracked, red, and blistered from harsh industrial cleaning chemicals.

"Hey, you missed a spot near the toilets,"

The night manager barked at her, tossing a filthy, wet mop at her feet.

Fernanda bit her lip, holding back tears of utter humiliation as she picked up the mop. Her back ached, her feet were covered in blisters, and the cheap polyester uniform she was forced to wear scratched her skin.

She remembered the mornings she had lounged on the sofa, forcing Valeria to hand-wash her delicate silk blouses. She remembered laughing as Valeria scrubbed the kitchen floor on her hands and knees.

Karma had not just knocked on Fernanda's door; it had kicked it off the hinges and dragged her into the mud.
