Chapter 14 - The Mysterious Maid

"Madam, please respect me. This is Diego's child, your grandchild," I said, my blood boiling.

Fernanda simply laughed her shrill, mocking laugh.

"Oh, please. Just another brat to feed. Let's see if you work twice as hard now, because my brother isn't going to stop giving us our allowance just because of your little whims."

From that day forward, the hell multiplied tenfold. Instead of showing me any grace for being pregnant, they demanded even more.

The morning sickness was brutal, yet Doña Carmen forced me to wake up at 5:00 AM to prepare fresh, organic green juices for Fernanda before her gym sessions. By my fifth month, my belly was prominent. My back constantly ached, and my feet were swollen. Diego became a ghost, coming home late, reeking of alcohol, and yelling that I was suffocating him.

Then, during my sixth month, everything changed. I came home feeling terrible, opened the door, and was shocked to smell fresh pine cleaner and a home-cooked meal.

"Good afternoon, Miss Valeria," said a woman in her fifties, wearing a blue uniform, her hair tied in a tight bun.

"I am Margarita. Doña Carmen hired me to help."
