Chapter 16 - The Mother's Masterplan

Elena Villalobos took off the cheap glasses and looked at me with a mixture of sternness and profound sorrow.
"Hello, my darling daughter," she said in her deep, commanding voice.
I broke down, sobbing as all the pride and exhaustion washed away. She held me with hands that were now dry from cleaning chemicals.
"I hired private investigators the day you left," she explained softly.
"I always knew where you were. But if I came in a luxury car to drag you away, you would have rejected me. I had to see how they treated you, and I had to gather enough evidence to crush this family to dust without them ever seeing it coming."
"You were right about everything," I sobbed.
"I want to leave today."

"No," she replied, her steel gaze returning.
"You will not sneak out like a coward. We will leave, yes. But first, these women and your cowardly husband will pay for every tear they caused you. This Friday, Diego is bringing fake investors for dinner. That will be the day of their absolute ruin."
