Chapter 23 - The Iron Fortress

Within forty-eight hours, the legal fortress surrounding Alejandro was completely impenetrable.
Mr. Gutiérrez, the family's chief legal counsel, sat in the private hospital suite, organizing a towering stack of heavily notarized documents on a mahogany table.
"I have finalized the trust fund and the absolute custody mandates, Valeria,"
Mr. Gutiérrez stated, handing her a solid gold fountain pen.
"Diego's parental rights have been permanently severed under the severe domestic violence clauses and the financial fraud convictions. He is legally recognized only as a sperm donor. He has no right to visitation, no right to information, and no right to ever contact this child."
Valeria took the pen, her hand completely steady, and signed her name on the dotted lines, pressing hard enough to leave deep indents in the thick paper.
"What about his attempts to contest it?"
Valeria asked without looking up.
"He cannot afford a lawyer to file a contest, and no judge in this state will entertain a petition from a man currently under investigation for multi-million peso fraud,"
Elena interjected smoothly, sipping a cup of black coffee.
"The boy's last name is legally Villalobos. The pathetic legacy of the San Pedro scammers ends today."
Valeria handed the signed documents back to the lawyer. She felt a profound, unshakeable sense of security. Her son was wrapped in armor made of billions of dollars and relentless, ruthless legal power.

"Thank you, Mr. Gutiérrez,"
Valeria said softly, looking over at Alejandro, who was sleeping peacefully in his crystal bassinet.
